Our athlete Zeynep Sönmez, who is at the 164th level of the WTA world rankings, advanced to the second round by defeating number 137 Heather Watson 3-6, 6-1, 6-3 in the first round qualifying match of the WTA 500 Brisbane International tournament held in Australia.
Our athlete got her name on the main draw by beating the number 1 seed, world number 90 Aliaksandra Sasnovich, 6-4, 7-5 in the qualifying final round.
Zeynep was matched with world number 55 French Clara Burel in the first round of the main draw and bid farewell to the tournament, losing in sets of 4-6, 2-6.
With this performance in the tournament, Zeynep became the second Turkish girl to advance to the main table in a tennis tournament in the WTA 500 category. Zeynep will rise to world number 155 after this tournament!
